TRAGEDY OF THE TAIGA

When the iron curtain of the former communist Soviet regime was dismantled I was one of many westerners who rejoiced, not for the success at failure of any given political system, but because I thought that we could now meet and talk freely with ordinary Russians and also be able to visit their fabulous country.

It is a sad failure on our part and on their part that the ‘opening’ of wondrous areas such as the Taiga has also brought about uncontrolled logging and tiger poaching, both rife with corruption and fueled by the greed and insincerity of neighboring countries.

We hope that Russian and other? authorities will act to stop this.Please preserve a unique ecosystem and human culture whose loss will be a disaster for the whole planet.
